Maulana Abul A’la Maududi (1903–1979) was a prominent Islamic scholar, thinker, and founder of Jamaat-e-Islami. Born in Aurangabad, India, he combined traditional Islamic studies with modern education, mastering Arabic, Persian, and Western thought. A prolific writer, his works, including Tafheem-ul-Quran, emphasized Islam as a comprehensive way of life. Through Jamaat-e-Islami, he advocated for an Islamic state governed by Sharia. His ideas influenced Pakistan’s Islamic identity but sparked debates for their rigidity. Maududi’s legacy endures through his writings and his role in shaping modern Islamic thought. He passed away in 1979.
