A Textbook of Hadith Studies provides a wide-ranging coverage of Hadith methodology and literature for intermediate and advanced levels of study. It offers insights into the history of Hadith, their compilation, documentation and methods for ascertaining their accuracy. It deals also with the principles of Hadith criticism (al-j all) wa al-ta WV) and classification. Mohammad Hashim Kamali, born in Afghanistan in 1944, is currently Dean of the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization at the International Islamic University Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. He studied law at Kabul University and did LL.M in comparative law, and Ph.D in Islamic law at the University of London, 1972 and 1976 respectively. He served as Assistant Professor at the Institute of Islamic Studies, McGill University in Montreal, was a Visiting Professor at Capital University, Columbus, Ohio and later on, a Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Study Berlin, Germany. He has participated in over 100 national and international conferences, published 13 books and over 80 academic articles. His books include Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence (Cambridge, and K.L., 1991 and 1998); Freedom of Expression in Islam (Cambridge, and K.L., 1997 and 1998) and Islamic Commercial Law: An Analysis of Futures and Options (Cambridge, and K.L., 2001).
THE ISLAMIC FOUNDATION aims to achieve excellence in academic research, education, publications, training and building bridges between Muslims and others. Since 1973, the Foundation has developed its national and international standing through the character, variety and scope of its activities. It has, at present, over 300 published titles, and houses one of the largest private Islamic libraries in Western Europe. It published an academic journal: The Muslim World Book Review (quarterly). Its academic wing the Markfield Institute of Higher Education awards MA/MPhil/PhD degrees, Post-Graduate Diploma and Certificate in Islamic Studies in partnership with Newman University, Birmingham, UK.
